After my iphone decided not to work the other day - after perhaps too many drops and little hands playing with apps - I had no choice but to get a new phone.
Following much deliberation and looking at the options, I decided to return to Nokia after having had an iPhone for a long time.
A device promising to challenge the best androids and Apple smartphones, what I was drawn to was its good looks and smooth Windows 8 phone operating system, as well as the wide colour choice of green, orange, while and black. It is also made of a high grade plastic which I hope will deliver more protection.
At almost 10mm thick the device is wider than its competitors, but it fits in your hand nicely and the intuitive navigation system makes the phone really simple to use.
The Lumia 930 has a a bright 5” Full HD display, 20 megapixel camera, surround sound recording, and built-in wireless charging. It is light at less than 170 grams and boasts almost 18 hours in 3G talk time.
It features as standard a Personal information Management including: calculator, clock, calendar, alarm clock, reminders, phonebook, to-do list, family room, Kid's Corner, OneNote, social networks in phonebook and wallet. There are also some impressive business apps if you need to be able to work on the go including the ability to access and edit Word, PowerPoint and OneNote, as well as OneDrive to store documents and notes
It comes with great instant messaging and email solutions, as well as Skype video call features and has handy social media apps: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and WhatsApp for sharing and staying connected to others. You can even capture and share your life in motion with friends and family through Vine on the device. I love this feature as my family are spread across the world – so anything that helps capture moments simply and makes everyone feel closer is a winner for me.
Another of my favourite features of this phone is the Nokia MixRadio, which enables you to access commercial-free music streaming at no additional cost. I just love music and having it preinstalled, from the moment you turn it on is gold. There are literally hundreds of regularly updated mixes, which you can customise to suit your own taste.
I think there’s a lot to love about the Nokia Lumia 930.
But, in summary, it’s perfect for mums wanting a great looking phone that makes staying connected to others fun and easy without the worry of battery life. Retailing for around $724, it’s definitely worth the jump.
I give the Nokia Lumia 930 5 stars.
