Sick of having tug of wars with your kids with your iPad and contemplating getting them one? If so, the iPad Mini is a great option.
We’ve had ours for six months and found it to be a great product for our kids - specifically because it’s small and light enough for them to handle and delivers hours of entertainment, as well as, educational benefits.
However, if you do buy one, a good protective case is an absolute MUST with this device because its fragile and it’s just a matter of time before its accidentally dropped.
As the name suggests, the iPad mini is much like an iPad, but in a smaller package. Ours runs on the iOS 7 operating system and comes with pre-installed apps for browsing, messaging, and multimedia.
There’s no doubting Apple App Store has the most comprehensive collection of apps, so with the Mini you have access to thousands of educational apps for kids of all ages and the device can be used and adapted to children at different stages.
When buying one, I strongly recommend activating the parental controls and restrictions before handing over the iPad to the kids, which is easy to do in the general settings.
The iPad Mini has a 7.9 screen with 1028x768 resolution and has full HD features for great content playback. There are two cameras with Full HD recording and the standard package comes with 1GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage. It runs a single antennae with dual band WiFi and its lithium battery lasts about 10 hours depending on the functions being used.
The device has a port for charging and connecting to a computer and another port for headphones.
We’ve found ours to be a great quality product that runs really well. The colour is vivid and text is sharp. My children have absolutely loved using it over the past 6 months. My son reads on it and has also taken loads of pictures on our various adventures.
We’ve also found the customer support to be excellent with the iPad Mini and our other Apple devices.
However, the iPad Mini does come with a hefty price tag starting at $299 and it does need to be handled with care.
That said, I do think it’s worth it and the best tablet option available for children considering it can grow with them.
I would definitely buy it again and recommend it to parents with children over the age of 6.
4 stars.
