Raising kids is a wonderful adventure, but there are times when you need a bit of guidance on best ways to deal with problems and stages.
We recently encountered some issues with our son recently at school and a friend recommended The Secret of Happy Children by psychologist and family therapist, Steve Biddulph.
A fantastic read that offers parents great clarity, commonsense, and warmth, The Secret of Happy Children instructs all parents about parent-child communication from babyhood to teens.
It gives parents confidence to be more themselves as parents - stronger, more loving, more definite, more relaxed.
Biddulph reveals what is really happening inside kids' minds and what to do about it.
Covering a wide variety of issues important to a child and parent’s happiness, including stopping tantrums before they begin, curing shyness, the link between food and behaviour, child care issues, different needs of boys and girls, coping as a single parent, discipline methods that work and much more.
The book confirmed some of parenting techniques were right for my child and it also showed me to let go of some old negative approaches that weren’t working.
I think the book shows parents how to be true to themselves while also bringing up secure children who feel loved and respected, with self-esteem and responsibility.
The tone was authoritative and information accessible – providing very practical solutions for the problems and scenarios parents encounter everyday.
I recommend it highly to other parents wanting a sensible, easy-to-read and at times humorous guide to raising happy and confident children. 5 stars.
