Feeling a little stale?:

Inspired by hanging upside down at Questacon, Christina challenges us to try something new.

Stuck hanging mid air, I looked straight down at the free fall drop. It felt really really high. It was impossible to go back. The only way was down. I took a breath. I let go. And I fell.

On this family trip to Canberra, we were visiting groovy science museum Questacon.

I had just had a birthday. I really felt like trying something brand new. So I donned their overalls, climbed the stairs and that’s how I found myself hanging ready for the free fall drop. The fall, once you let go, feels really long, even though it’s a short second or two before a long slippery slide takes you to ground level. Not really dangerous, but scary.

Perfect for a mid-40s mother of 2 who used to be outrageous in prior decades.  And how did it feel to try something new?

It felt GREAT: Trembling. Triumphant. But Terrific!

When was the last time you tried something new?

If life is feeling a little predictable, there’s lots of other ways to shake up your routine.

Over Easter, think about how you can do so for yourself.

At my studio, we are doing so by introducing new classes. For example:

  • If you are a Pilates die hard, try a yoga class and experience how delightfully spacious you can feel in your body, mind and heart.
  • If yoga speaks to your soul, get solid in your core with a Pilates class.
  • Not a morning person? Well now that day light saving makes the mornings seem friendlier, join a 6 am yoga and Pilates classes.
  • Got young kids? Bring them to a mum and kids class.
  • If you have never tried meditation, why not give it a go for autumn and winter?

As Bikram Choudhury once said: 'You're never too old, never too bad, never too late, never too sick to start from scratch.'
