All parents would love to set up a beautiful playroom for their kids, but nobody wants to spend a fortune. Whether you want to have an entire room for your kids or just an area of the house where they can let loose, there are ways that you create this space affordably. Use these tips to make a kid-friendly play space that your kids and their friends will love.

1. Use Fun and Cheap Seating

Floor cushions and pillows are great ways to make the room kid friendly and they don't have to cost a fortune. Stock up on bean bags or other floor pillows and poufs from local stores, especially during clearance season. You can even make your own if you're crafty.

2. Turn a Wall into a Chalkboard Wall

A chalkboard is a fun addition to a child's playroom. They can draw on the walls without getting into trouble, saving both space and paper. You can easily find chalkboard paint that will turn any wall or part of the wall into a usable chalkboard. This is one of the more popular playroom ideas on a budget and it's great for kids of all ages.

3. Create an Art Area

If your kids are crafty, consider having a space that's designated for arts and crafts. Put in a small table and keep art supplies on the table where they can be easily reached. Old jars like jam jars can be cleaned and used to store pencils, paint brushes, and other craft items. Shoeboxes can also be embellished and hold some basic supplies. Your kids will love this area when they want to be creative.

4. Find Kids Furniture

Kids love having furniture that's their size but some pieces can be expensive. Chances are your kids are only going to use the pieces for a few years, so you don't need to go all out. Look for inexpensive coffee tables, stools, and small ottomans that can be used for kids’ tables or seating areas. You can repaint them to make them fit in the playroom without spending a fortune.

5. Use Smart Storage

The playroom is going to need space for books, toys, and other items to be stored. The good news is you can make the storage part of the decor as well. Consider storage cubes or crates which can be stacked and found for a low cost. You can also find single wall shelves to store picture books and similar items.

Corner shelves are often a great option to fill in a space that may not be used. If you really don't want to purchase anything, consider decorating shipping boxes into crates that can be used for stacking and storage. Cover them with fabric or paint them to make them a fun addition.

Creating a dedicated play area in the house is an idea your kids will love. These five budget-friendly ideas will help you fill out the space without spending a fortune.
