A common questions that most women who have had a baby ask is "how can I get rid of my tummy fat?” and even though when we gain weight from pregnancy it is all over weight, the tummy area is one of the top areas of concern for mums and one which everyone wants the answer on how to get rid of it.
However, the key part to note for any mums is that spot fat removal isn’t possible and the only way to lose the fat from the tummy area is to lose all over body fat.
This means that a whole body fat removal approach needs to be taken and it doesn’t matter how many tummy exercises we do – unless we can remove the body fat the toned tummy won’t be seen.
Our advice is to focus on adopting a healthy eating and healthy lifestyle approach as opposed to focusing on one area of your body
Our top tips for losing the belly fat are:
1. Incorporate cardio into your life every day – this could be a fast walk, dancing at home or an exercise DVD
2. Do exercises that use the larger muscle groups which help to burn more fat and boost the metabolism – squats and lunges are great for this
3. Work on your digestion so your body can eliminate waste effectively. Eat wholegrains, fruits, vegetables and drink lots of water
4. Eat metabolism boosting foods such as chilli, garlic, cinnamon and green tea
5. Incorporate more protein in your diet which helps you feel fuller for longer and helps to boost the metabolism
And remember – whatever weight loss methods you decide to use, make sure they are realistic, don’t contain weight loss accelerants and fit into your life as a busy mum so they are easy to stick to
