Going to the beach is the best way to spend an afternoon or vacation, especially during the summer. However, if you have a chance to fly to a warm climate and soak up some sun, then feel free to do so, of course. But, spending too much time in the heat can have negative consequences on your health, which is why it’s important to protect yourself from the sun while on the beach. So for that specific reason, here are some helpful tips that will show you how to do it.

Don’t go to the beach at noon

Noon is the time when the sun is the strongest and brightest, which means you should stay away from the beach during that period. Usually, hours between 11 AM and 3 PM should be spent someplace else, because being at the beach during that time can cause you the worst sunburns and other issues. If you have no other options, but to stay at the beach, then it’s crucial to go under the shade and wear protective clothing.

Protect your whole body

Some people tend to get sunburnt on specific areas of the body, such as the shoulders and nose, which is why they often focus on protecting these areas only. However, it’s essential to protect your whole body, including hair, eyelids, lips, and scalp. Aside from using sunscreen, make sure to use hair protection spray, a lip balm with an SPF, and a quality-made sunhat and sunglasses. That way, you will be extra safe if you aim to spend multiple hours on the beach.

Always use sunscreen

Sunscreen is the true holy grail cosmetic product, and beach time is the only time when you should use it religiously. Also, make sure to find an appropriate cream that offers SPF 30 or higher. Learning all the facts about SPF protection will keep you safe even during the hottest period. Your sunscreen cream should be able to protect you from ultraviolet A and B rays, so be sure to choose one that will do the job. Also, it’s important to reapply the cream, especially before you go swimming.

Wear appropriate clothing

We already mentioned the importance of wearing a sunhat, sunglasses, and lip balm. But, appropriate clothing is even more important, so rather than treating your beach visit as a runway show, it’s better to choose clothes that will keep you protected at all times. There are t-shirts and pants that are UV resistant, so feel free to check them out. Besides, it’s best to choose clothes that are loose-fitting and made from materials that offer protection in front of the sun.

Make sure to stay hydrated

Staying hydrated is important in general, but when going to the beach, you should definitely make the extra effort to drink enough water. Sun exposure can make you feel dehydrated quite fast, and drinking water will keep your skin protected from solar radiation. Doing everything in your power to stay safe will be helpful in the long run, especially since being exposed to the sun without protection can pose a risk of skin cancer, premature aging, and other health issues. So, next time you plan to visit a beach, make sure to also invest in a reusable water bottle that will keep your water cold and fresh despite the heat.

Conclusion

There’s no beach fun without the sun, however, due to environmental changes in the past decades, the sun has gotten harsher and more dangerous. Therefore, going to the beach requires you to be alert and to protect yourself by wearing sunscreen and appropriate clothes. Finally, staying hydrated and being in the shade during critical hours, is a sure way to stay safe and have a nice time on the beach regardless of the season.
