Every holiday brings with it the cheer, joy and happiness associated with the season, but the post-holiday slump can be depressing, especially if your body is feeling bloated and heavy with rich foods. There is a way to get back your pre-holiday energy levels - just follow these sure fire tips.

Cut out sugar and salt

If you are feeling bloated, an easy way to jumpstart your system is to cut out sugar and salt from your diet, especially after all the sweet delights of the holiday season. Stick to a sugar and salt-less diet for at least three days to get your body back on track.

Increase your veggies intake

Aim to eat at least seven servings of fruit and vegetables a day, two more than the five that is normally recommended, just to cleanse your system. Ensure you have a varied diet and choose brightly coloured fruits and veggies, like carrots, dark green kale or spinach, or oranges. This is a good way of ensuring your body gets the vitamins and minerals it needs to detox after the holiday season.

Teetotal for two weeks

After all that bubbly champagne and delicious eggnog, cut your liver some slack and go teetotal for two weeks. Drink at least 2 litres of water a day and abstain from sugary sodas and juices. If you must drink, choose a glass of red wine to go with your meals, and stop at one.

Gym easy

It can be a challenge to get back into routines after the holidays, so go easy. Start with a short gym session to ease yourself into working out again. A hard work out immediately after the holidays is a definite way of making your muscles sore and killing all motivation.

Dry brush

Invest in a long handed brush with soft, natural bristles and dry brush your entire body just before you hop into the shower. The skin is your body’s largest organ, and dry brushing can help to eliminate toxins from your body by clearing clogged pores and stimulating blood circulation.

Take a bath

A warm bath is comforting and can help your body detox. Add a cup of Epsom salts and some essential oils such as lemon, rosemary, jojoba or olive to your bath - these ingredients naturally draw out the toxins from your body via the skin.
