One of the nation’s most loved travelling craft shows, The Stitches & Craft Show, is heading to Melbourne for a huge event complete with expert retailers, hands-on workshops, cake decorating displays, international textile exhibitions, a yarn bombed car, the latest and hard-to-find products and much more.
A crowd favourite at the show will be The Sentinelles Exhibition: A Display of Embroidered Textile Art. After receiving critical acclaim during its recent tour of France, this exhibition showcases stunning embroidered textile panels by highly talented quilters and textile artists from France, England, the USA and Australia.
For those with a sweet tooth, the cake decorating competition will be sure to delight! Hosted by the Cake Decorators Association of Victoria, the competition showcases creativity and talent with the entries and winners for ten sections on display including novices, juniors and seniors.
Discussing all things woolly and colourful at the show will be representatives from one of the largest yarn-bombing groups in the world, Yarn Corner. In addition to a daily talks on their past and current projects, the group will showcase their talents with an impressive yarn-bombed vintage Daimler car on display.
Making a special appearance at the show will be graphic designer and textile artist Ro Bruhn, who will share her passion for jewellery making, painting, mosaics and art journals; while offering expert tips on creating profitable craft businesses will be craft business coach Suzanne Robinson.
A highlight of the event will be a large wall decorated with handcrafted poppies and open to contributions by show attendees. The poppies will be put towards the 5000 Poppies Project, a phenomenal initiative that has seen over 26,000 poppies contributed to date with the aim of creating a giant ‘field’ to be laid across Federation Square on Anzac Day 2015.
Young crafters can join in on the fun with a specially designed Kids Zone by Melbourne craft store, I’m A Craftaholic. Little hands can take part in make and take workshops including decorating money boxes, paper lanterns, comic book covered shoes, fabric photo frames and more.
Providing expert advice across the event will be a huge number of Guilds including the Australian Lace Guild (VIC branch), the Australian Sewing Guild (VIC branch), Basketmakers of Victoria, Machine Knitters Association of Victoria, The Bead Society of Victoria, The Needlework Tapestry Guild of Victoria, Victorian Egg Decorators, Victorian Quilters and The Tatters’ Guild of Australia (VIC branch). Plus see the display from the Melbourne Modern Quilt Guild and talk to members about what makes a modern quilt.
The Stitches & Craft Show also offers many fantastic opportunities to learn from the experts at tutorials and hands-on workshops. Classes include beaded jewellery, quilt making, sewing, hand dyeing, scrapbooking, card making, embroidery and much more.
With something for every craft lover, The Stitches & Craft Show will be sure to delight and inspire audiences both young and old!
