We all work hard during life. Whether you go to work, study, stay at home with kids or run your own business - we can all agree that everyone is putting in the hard yards. That’s why taking a break for a holiday at least once a year is something every family should do. And nothing beats a family trip. Adelaide is becoming an increasingly popular family destination. It’s no longer just the city of churches, but a booming, vibrant and enjoyable multicultural hub. But before you pack the car and head off there are a few things you should know ahead of time. Let’s explore some of them in this helpful article.

Pre-Book Your Accommodation

There is nothing worse than arriving at a holiday destination only to discover all the accommodation is booked out. Busy times of year will see Adelaide apartments, holiday units and hotels booked to the brim. So if you’re planning your trip over Easter, Christmas or New Years’ Eve, pre-book your stay to avoid disappointment.

Consider Planning Your Trip Around Fringe

The Adelaide Fringe Festival is the second-largest fringe festival in the world and is home to hundreds of wild, wacky and left-of-centre exhibitions, performances and shows. If you like your entertainment a bit on the eccentric side then you may want to plan your trip around this festival. Don’t worry - there are plenty of family-friendly entertainment options available during the festival so the kids will find themselves as amused and entertained as mum and dad.

Wine Country

No trip to Adelaide is complete without a day or two spent in wine country. There are plenty of bus tours operating from the city centre so you don’t have to worry about driving the hire car there and back. The Adelaide Hills is the closest region, which is perfect if you don’t want to stray too far from the city centre. McLaren Vale is another prime location, where they make some big bold and brave Shiraz wines.

A Trip to the Beach

While Adelaide may not be known as much as Queensland or Northern New South Wales for its beaches, there are still some stunning coastal areas in this part of Australia. Sellicks, Aldinga, Moana (not the Disney movie, but that might get the kids’ excited), Semaphore and Brighton are all worth a day trip. Pack the sunscreen, hats, cordial and towels and the whole family will enjoy the day.

The Central Market

The Adelaide Central Market is a savvy shoppers dream. It is the Southern Hemisphere’s largest undercover market and has everything that you could dream of. From crafts to clothes, to tasty food, books and it is worth spending a half or a whole day here. Just remember to take some cash as not all stallholders will take cards.

Special Kids Activities

There are plenty of things to do in this city to keep the kids’ happy. Mega Adventure Adelaide is one place, with a stack of high-up activities to give them a good thrill. Relax, it’s got a cafe so the folks can sit and have a cuppa while the kids play. The Adelaide Zoo is also worth a visit and will be a hoot for the children too.

To Conclude

Adelaide is a vibrant city to visit with plenty to do for the whole family. Make sure to pre-book your accommodation to avoid disappointment. Consider planning your trip around the Adelaide Fringe Festival. Take a trip to wine country so you have something to enjoy as parents. There are a bunch of local beaches to choose from, each breathtaking. Visit the Central Market for your shopping fix, and check out some of the special kids’ activities we’ve mentioned above.
