October is fast approaching and that means it’s time to dust off your lederhosens, raise your steins and celebrate everyone’s favourite beer festival. And any few weeks you can dedicate to eating delicious food and drinking delicious bier, sound like a very good few weeks indeed.
The 16-day celebration of beer starts in mid-September and has been embraced all over Australia. So, no matter which state you’re in, you’re sure to find a festival to clink your glasses at.
Sydney
Bavarian Bier Café
The beauty about celebrating in the Bavarian Bier Café is that the venues are all over Sydney.
You’ll be able to taste a total 5 biers – four of them straight from tents in Munich – available over the weeks and you can party as much as you like, whilst enjoying some delicious German food.

Oktoberfest Brisbane
They call themselves Australia’s largest German Festival, and by the looks of the program it’s going to be a hard one to beat. You can laugh, dance, yodel and sing to your heart’s content in the Oktoberfest Tent. See, learn and be amazed at the displays, shows and information of all things German in the German Connections Tent. Relax in the Munich Biergarten while your kids enjoy the Kinder-Zone, and much much more – including a Bavarian Strongmen Competition.

Oktoberfest In The Gardens
Taste your way across Europe with a large selection of imported beer, cider and wine. Then feast your way through the food halls and enjoy the eclectic mix of entertainment including a silent disco.
This one’s asell-out event so get in quick. Every ticket comes with a complementary drink and take-home stein.

Oktoberfest CBR
This particular celebration of the great bier festival has been going for 50 years but this will be only the second time at the Queanbeyan Showgrounds. Here you’ll find traditional music, German dancers, amusement rides and bell-ringers set to entertain. Plus, beardmeister and Miss Oktoberfest competitions – and of course, lots of bier drinking.

Adelaide
Adelaide Hills Oktoberfest
Prancing Pony Brewery are delivering this year’s “Adelaide Hills Oktoberfest”. This festival promises to deliver a traditional and authentic German Cultural Oktoberfest, in the Adelaide Hills. It’s a family-friendly event with music, traditional dancing, beer and plenty of German-inspired food. There will be lots of things happening including Bretzel eating, hammer throwing, potato sack racing and a couple of competitions – Best Moustache Competition (Gentlemen) and Best Stein Holding Competition (Ladies).
