On a mission to simplify nutrition for everyday Aussies, Lean Cuisine has teamed up with leading dietitian and nutritionist Susie Burrell, to create a new type of ready-meals range that focuses on simple, balanced, nutrition.
As the health industry continues to boom in Australia¹, so has the number of fad diets and amount of misinformation, turning nutrition into a cluttered and confusing space.
And while popular diet regimes such as Paleo, Keto and Low Carb promise quick weight loss, they are rarely sustainable and lack the dietary balance required for weight control and optimal nutritional intake long term.
Despite many recognising that nutrition is important, a recent study from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare² found that Australians generally have a poor diet, are not eating the recommended balance of food groups and overcompensate with foods that are high in salt, fat and sugar.
It is for this reason that the new Lean Cuisine range has been developed according to the principles of the Healthy Eating Pyramid.
By focusing on a dietary balance that includes plenty of veggies, fruits, carbs, protein, good fats and oils, the Healthy Eating Pyramid promotes not only a balanced diet, but a sustainable approach to nutrition.
“There’s a reason why models like the Healthy Eating Pyramid have been used for so long, it’s not a fad or a miracle cure,” Susie says.
“It’s simple, balanced nutrition principles make it easy to follow by taking the guesswork out of healthy eating, can work for the long term and still allows you to still enjoy a glass of wine, a beer or a pasta meal when you want to.”
Building on the foundation of simple, balanced nutrition, Lean Cuisine and Susie wanted to provide a way to offer its consumers support extending beyond the realm of nutrition and into general health, which led to the creation of the Lean Cuisine AU app and desktop version which will be available for download in the App Store, Google Play or at leancuisine.com.au from early 2021.
Partnering with Susie to develop the new range was a no brainer, says Diana Stalteri, the General Manager of Marketing & Innovation at Vesco Foods.
Australia’s most trusted nutritionists and believes in the importance of simple, balanced nutrition, so was the perfect fit for Lean Cuisine,” Diana says.
“Over the last 18 months we’ve worked extremely closely with Susie and our talented chefs to create a range that not only celebrates incredible nutrition, but tastes great too.” Diana says.
Knowing that busy Aussies need convenient meal options for any time of day, Lean Cuisine and Susie also set out to create a breakfast selection of ready meals, an exciting first for Lean Cuisine and the frozen meals category.
The new range also features two new exciting meal ranges, NutriBowl, dishes that build on a base of wholesome grains to offer an excellent source of fibre and ProteinPlus for a meal that’s packed with extra protein and serves of vegetables for when you need it.
While meals from the new range can be enjoyed at any time, consumers looking for more nutritional direction and support can look to the colour guide Lean Cuisine have included for each recommended meal occasion: yellow for breakfast, light and darker blue meals for lunch and greens for evening.
Lean Cuisine’s new ready meals range is available for purchase now at Woolworths, Coles and IGA stores, nationwide. The Lean Cuisine AU app and desktop version at leancuisine.com.au will be available for free download and access early 2021.
