Harry Kewell, one of the best known and highly-rated Socceroos players, is touring Queensland as part of the Harry Kewell Academy program in the September school holidays.
Harry, who is from the western suburbs of Sydney, is one of Australia’s finest exponents of 'the beautiful game' and enjoyed a highly successful career playing with Leeds United and Liverpool in England, Galatasary in Turkey, Melbourne Victory and Melbourne Heart in Australia and a brief stint with Al-Gharafa in Qatar.
He played for the Socceroos on 58 occasions, scoring 17 goals and also represented Australia at Under-17 and Under-20 international levels. He participated in both the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup tournaments, and his goal against Croatia in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, which sent Australia into the second round, rates as one of the most memorable Socceroo goals ever.
Since retiring from competitive football earlier this year, Harry has established the Harry Kewell Academy in conjunction with Jeep Australia aimed at providing access and involvement for Australian kids everywhere.
“I’ll be hands-on with the teaching so children will learn my methods. It’s the way I learned to play and what I perfected in my 26-year professional career. So I know these methods work, whether you’re playing Under-10s in a local league or in the World Cup,” Harry said.
The Harry Kewell Academy Masterclass Clinics range in cost from $69 to $139 depending on the option selected. Registration is available online at the Harry Kewell Academy website and is open to all children aged 8-13 years.
“With the help of Jeep, I am able to reach regional locations throughout Australia, and I am looking forward to visiting Townsville.
“I especially look forward to coaching kids in regional locations to help them reach their potential,” said Harry.
