Embrace the Christmas Season at Castle Towers:Break the Record and Be Part of Christmas Caroling History
Date: November 30 2015
Castle Towers is embracing the Christmas season by inviting the people of Sydney to smash the Guinness World Record for the Largest Smartphone Ensemble in support of the Children’s Hospital at Westmead.
The landmark event will be led by Australian celebrity musical director and composer John Foreman who will lead the crowd in playing a ‘virtual bell’ on their smartphones in time with a medley of traditional Christmas carols such as Silent Night, Joy to the World, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, Jingle Bells and The First Noel.
The record attempt will take place on Thursday 3rd December at 6pm against the backdrop of an impressive light display in-centre, and registrations to attend are now open.
Leading shopping centre Castle Towers created and designed a custom mobile ‘Symphony of the Season’ App, specifically for the event. It uses motion technology to play the Christmas carols and achieve a wide range of sounds, instruments and notes.
Castle Towers Centre Manager, Martin Ollis, said the record attempt will ensure Christmas festivities kick off with a bang.
“At Castle Towers, we love bringing joy to our community, family and friends. This Christmas, we wanted to do something out of the box by celebrating the festive season in a fun new age way, and most importantly give the Sydney community this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make Christmas carolling history.”
Symphony participants can either tap or shake their phone to play along to the carols, and will be encouraged to support The Children’s Hospital at Westmead via a gold coin donation that will be matched by Castle Towers to raise funds for the charity.
“We need 250 people to break the record for the World’s Largest Smartphone Ensemble. At the heart of the Christmas spirit is having fun, and helping others wherever we can. We’re urging families from all over the city to join us to put Sydney’s name into the record books and support this great cause,” Mr Ollis said.
The record attempt will be attended by a Guinness World Record adjudicator, and to ensure everything runs smoothly on the night, Australia’s music supremo John Foreman will lead a rehearsal the night before. Earlier this year, John was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for his impact on the world of performing arts.
“Hundreds of people coming together for the chance of a lifetime promises to be a thrilling event. Music is a joyful art form that can really connect people at all stages of life. I’m so excited to be a part of this record attempt that will connect, and inspire and give back to the local Sydney community,” Mr Foreman said.
The current Guinness World Record title for the Largest Smartphone Ensemble is held by the Vivo Xplay Mobile Music Festival at the Beijing Contemporary Music Academy in Beijing, China.
Castle Towers is celebrating Christmas with a huge array of Yuletide treats as Santa arrives to take up residence in his throne on Saturday 7 th November. Roaming entertainment will also be spreading Christmas cheer from Tuesday 17th November right up until Christmas Eve.
The Symphony of the Season app is available to download now for free on iPhone and Android from iTunes or Google Play, so shoppers can practice bell-ringing in the lead-up to the event. For more details and registrations, visit www.castletowers.com.au.
