Spanish actresses Penelope Cruz, and her sister Monica, are no strangers to fashion.
They wear it well; but they’ve also posed and created a line for retailer Mango, designed a handbag for Loewe and have now designed a sumptuous lingerie collection for British label, Agent Provocateur, known as L’Agent.
Penelope has also made her directorial debut with a promotional film for the new brand that is designed to appeal to male fantasy as much as it does to women.
L’Agent is a five-year partnership between the Cruz sisters and Agent Provocateur, and is the brand’s first spin-off (or diffusion) brand.
For the northern hemisphere autumn debut, Penelope and Monica have chosen a Spanish girl’s name for each style – including Penelope and Monica of course. The range is colourful and sexy, as is the R-rated film - which is why it is not included here.
“I wanted [the film] to be sexy and provocative, but I also wanted it to have humour and portray all types of women, not just all of them thin and really young," she expressed to the latest edition of UK magazine Glamour.
"I have women who are aged 18 or 20 and I have other women who are 48 in the commercial, and I have bodies that are plus size, women with more curves. I said to them, 'If I'm going to do this, it's going to be a festival, a celebration of beauty."
She also has her heavily pregnant sister, Monica, wearing a neon pink babydoll outfit, as well as her husband, Javier Bardem, featured in the film.
Penelope says she and Monica have always been fans of beautiful lingerie.
"For the collection, we went back in the archives and looked at all of the best-selling pieces over the past 20 years. We saw every piece in there - we didn't copy any, but we brought back their spirit. Then we tried risky combinations - for example, bringing back some of the neon colours."
Prices start at around $70 for a bra and $120 for nightwear. The range is available via Net-a-Porter and other retail outlets.
