Two Australians – Hugh Jackman and Miranda Kerr - make this year’s lists of Forbes Top 100 celebrities which is topped – again – by the indomitable Oprah Winfrey.
The ranking is based on a range of factors such as marketability, pay, media and social network power to give an overall ranking.
Jackman is ranked the 11th most powerful celebrity in the world, with earnings of US$55m, and Kerr scrapes in at 100th spot with earning of $7m.
While Oprah is the most powerful celebrity, she didn’t earn the most in 2013. That honour goes to the 55-year-old Madonna who earned $125m mainly from her world tour, as well as merchandise sales of clothing and perfume.
Six women are ranked in the top 10. Besides Oprah and Madonna, they are Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Ellen DeGeneres. Steven Spielberg, Bon Jovi, Roger Federer and Justin Bieber make up the rest of the top 10.
#11 Hugh Jackman
“Singing, dancing, acting, getting ripped to kick some bad guy's butt, it's all in a day's work for Jackman,” according to Forbes.
“The actor, who is maybe best known for playing Wolverine in the many X-Men movies, showed last year that he can also move audiences to tears. As Jean Valjean in Les Miserables he scored an Oscar nomination and helped the musical earn $438 million on a budget of $61 million.”
Forbes also notes that Jackman is a budding entrepreneur, via his Laughing Man coffee and tea company which donates all profits to charity.
His 11th place puts him as the most powerful actor on the list; the most powerful actress is Angelina Jolie at number 33.
#100 Miranda Kerr
Miranda Kerr replaced Gisele Bündchen as the face (and body) of Victoria’s Secret Angel in 2007, a position she held until earlier this year.
Forbes says Kerr earns her money from a cosmetics line, Kora Organics, which she launched in 2009 as well as contracts from Spanish brand Mango.
“Where her career is really taking off, however, isn't the States or Europe - it's Asia, where the hugely successful Kerr has nabbed endorsements with companies such as Japanese clothing retailer EMODA,” says Forbes.
According to the Forbes Top 100 Celebrities list, the most ‘marketable’ celebrities in the world are Will Smith, Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock.
