Every Monday, we highlight 3 things to do this week. It might be something for all of us; and it might be local; and it could be related to any of the subjects we write about on Motherpedia - money, education, health, fitness, food, beauty and, of course, kids.
“We want a hand up, not a handout”
Sole parents don’t need to be told how to manage their finances; they’re already very good at it. They just want their financial support reinstated to pre-2013 levels. Have a read of some of the issues here and what one single mum, Kerry Arch, had to say about it.
Join Kerry, other sole parents and their supporters at a rally at Bill Shorten’s office on Thursday 11th July at 12 noon. The address is
Suite 1A, 12 Hall Street, Moonee Ponds

Happy Relationships, Happy Family
If you’re in Sydney on Sunday 14th July, get along to a one-day event at Macquarie University where you and your partner can learn how to make everyday a great day.
Speakers include five relationship therapists specialising in different areas of relationship therapy, including psychologists, a sex therapist, family therapist, relationship coach and meditation and tantra teachers.
You’ll also receive a good bag with $100 worth of inclusion, receive practical tips from Australia’s leading relationship therapists and a chance to win a Weekend for Two in the Blue Mountains.
Normally $39, the tickets are free for Motherpedia readers. Simply enter ‘community’ in the promo code at www.happy-relationships.eventbrite.com.au
Hours are 9.30am – 3pm, Sunday 14th July. Childcare is available for children under 7 for $33 including morning and afternoon tea and lunch.
Try Yoga
Trying a yoga class when you’re a beginner can be a bit intimidating. But it’s worth pushing through the self-consciousness and trying it because research suggests that just 20 minutes of yoga helps your brain function better. The study from the University of Illinois showed that people did better, both speed-wise and accuracy-wise on brain functioning tests after 20 minutes of yoga compared with the same amount of other types of exercise.
