Motherhood is the source of the biggest joy and biggest stress, often all at once. Therefore, it’s important to stay focused, no matter how difficult it might be at times. But, with a bit of effort and planning, it’s possible to stay on track, while still being able to finish everything on time. Sometimes, people underestimate the power of being organized. And if you’re a busy mom who feels overwhelmed by her day-to-day life, then this guide on staying focused is the right thing for you. So read on to learn how to manage your time and honor your needs in the process.
Organize your day and week
You don’t need to organize everything to perfection, but having an overview of upcoming tasks and duties can take a huge load off your back. Why? Simply, we tend to feel more relaxed when things are planned to a degree. Again, you’re not obliged to plan every minute of every day, but writing down the most important things will surely help you feel more organized. Luckily, there are many time planning apps that can help you get started, so don’t be afraid to use technology to your advantage.
Plan the meals in advanced
Meal planning is often the most annoying thing, especially if there are picky eaters in the family. That’s why planning meals in advance is so helpful: it gives you room to shop all the groceries, which is a huge stress in itself. You can plan meals by day, for example, Vegan Monday, Pizza Tuesday etc., are a great way to know when to prepare certain meals. Also, feel free to include your family members into the meal-planning process, because, after all, they’ll be the ones eating, so it makes sense to ask for their input. On the other hand, if there are times when you feel too tired to cook, don’t hesitate to order a meal, but don’t make it your habit. Ordering in is great at times, but if you’re on a budget, then it should be done sparingly.
Use some extra help
Some people have issues with asking for help, and that can pose a significant problem. We all deserve to get help, especially when things get tough and overwhelming. Therefore, you should never feel embarrassed for hiring a nanny or asking a relative or friend for some help. And in case you’re also working and studying alongside raising a family, then feel free to consume natural smart drinks that are full of vitamins and supplements that boost focus and motivation. Studying or working will be much easier when you use some extra help, as long as you’re mindful of your physical and mental health, of course.
Delegate the tasks
The society we live in teaches us that women should bear the brunt of raising a family and taking care of the household. Even though there’s nothing inherently wrong with that, sometimes, women deserve a break too. That’s why delegating the tasks can be so helpful. So next time you feel overwhelmed, ask your spouse to give you a hand. In case your kids are big enough to help, don’t be afraid to include them as well. Learning to pick up their toys or clean after themselves will teach them valuable lessons, and you will get a break from time to time.
Do things for yourself
Sitting in front of the TV while scrolling down your phone might seem like rest and relaxation, but it’s definitely not something you do for yourself. On the other hand, taking a walk, reading a book, meeting friends, going to a spa or shopping are fun activities that allow you to forget your daily worries while nourishing your own needs. If there’s someone who tells you otherwise, they’re wrong: we all deserve to get some rest, while doing things that fulfill us. And mothers especially deserve that.
Allow yourself to get some rest
If you’re too busy and overworked, then it’s very likely you feel guilty every time you take a break. But this type of thinking isn’t only counter-productive, it’s all damaging to your well-being. When you allow yourself to get some rest, that also means, you’re giving yourself permission to take a break and spend some time doing nothing, or doing things that you love. People who tend to guilt-trip others for resting are the people that you should avoid having in your life. Motherhood is often difficult and challenging itself, therefore, it’s only logical to rest and relax whenever you feel exhausted.
In conclusion
Staying focused and motivated can help you be a better and more productive person, especially if you’re a mother, too. But, in order to achieve that, you should also plan your time, ask for help and take a break whenever you feel like it. Besides, meal planning and doing things that you enjoy will likely help you recharge your batteries and feel happy and energized.
