Among the many cool things that summer brings along, fresh, vine-ripe tomatoes can be counted as one of foodies’ favorites. And since we’re a team of foodies, we are not going to waste the opportunity for a list of recipes revolving around tomatoes. Moreover, we have two other reasons for an article like this: first of all, it is now when the absolute best produce comes around; secondly, tomatoes are an ideal add on to every Christmas menu: fresh, tasty, healthy, versatile and affordable. Here’s our list of top 7 recipes for this year’s Christmas party.
1. Stuffed Pepper Toms. The secret to the perfect stuffed tomato lies in three basic things: the tomato must be able to ‘stand’ by itself; secondly, the tomato must be flavorful yet delicate enough to perfectly match the stuffing – which is the third and final characteristic needed to transform the good fruit onto
something else. Cherry tomatoes work, but Pepper Tom variety enhances everything.
2. Tomato Vinaigrette Dressing. A tomato-based
vinaigrette has the power to convert a salad into a chef’s design. Make sure you pick ultra-flavorful varieties that don’t contain too much water – the strawberry-shaped, intense Sweet Berry Truss might be the best one to go when it comes to salad dressings.
3. Balsamic Roasted Tomatoes. Vegan? Check. Gluten free? Check. Delicious? Count on it. Rumor says you’ll be speaking Italian after
eating one of these.
4. Let the Dip Show begin. One of our favorite Christmas’ moments is when the barbie is on and the beers and dips roll out. Like the dressing, this
dip salsa performs a lot better with tasty varieties.
5. Baked Tomato and Egg Cups. Top with a few drops of olive oil and you got yourself a
delicacy; you can also try and put them on the BB – after all, it’s Christmas!
6. Stuffed Tomato Cheese Balls. Guests will be thinking
‘How the heck did that happen?’ after the first bite. The ultimate iteration for cherry tomatoes; the sweeter Super Tom cherry variety provides a sweet ending that will leave you craving for more.
7. The Day After. If, by chance or will you ate too much during Christmas celebrations, this is
the perfect recipe for the day after. Melted parmesan for the hunger, vitamins and nutrients for the body. Pepper Tom variety is the best one if you happen – or plan – to be in this situation the day after Christmas.
On a final note, we must say that we choose tomato varieties from Blush, which come from the famous Guyra Shire. Reasons? Flavor, quality, availability and, most important, the tomatoes are a local product that employ hundreds of people in New South Wales. Feel free to pursue your own experiments!
