Christmas Holiday?:5 Australian Destinations You Can Spend The Holidays In
Date: December 23 2015
A good alternative when it comes to celebrating Christmas is to pack up and do it somewhere else. It’s a refreshing way to end the year and start thinking of the upcoming one. Plus, it’s a plan designed for the family, a chance to get closer and strengthen the love ties that keep everything running. Here’s our top 5 Australian destinations for this Christmas:
1. Kangaroo Island, South Australia. One of the best spots in the whole country to spend Christmas. It’s one of those places where kids’ memories are formed: beaches, caves, dunes, wildlife. It’s the adventurer’s paradise, where the night skies shine with stars and sunrises at the beach reach perfection. Kangaroo Island is an inspiring place – perfect for a Christmas holiday.
2. Esperance, Western Australia. Esperance is one of those towns that look like they’re ‘frozen in time’: clean, functional, family-oriented and warm. With its long, sandy beaches, surf and fishing spots and calm waters, Esperance is one place where kids can run around all day long. Accommodation is great – there’s a bit of everything and options for every budget. What to do? Besides the obvious beach time, activities range from scuba diving to visiting the nearby salt lakes, including the famous Pink Lake, which lies just 3 kilometers away from Esperance.
3. Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. A few decades ago, Coffs Harbour was synonym to banana industry. Nowadays, the town is a great destination for
families; banana industry has moved away, making space for lovely cafes, little pubs, picturesque old houses and amazing beaches. Plus, Coffs Harbour is literally surrounded by National Parks (prominently, Bongi Bongi, Bindarri, Dorrigo and Bellinger River), a must for visitors looking for wildlife and nature. For the little ones, there’s a treat: the Bunker Cartoon Gallery – short but sweet visit.
4. Lorne, Victoria. Fresh air, beaches and a buzzing art community: welcome to Lorne, one of Victoria’s Great Ocean Road pearls. Relaxed vibes, great food and lots of outdoors activities is what Lorne offers to its visitors. Plus, it’s one of the Falls Festival’s locations – but that’s a New Year’s plan, not a Christmas’ one.
5. Tasmania. Tassie has always been a great Christmas’ destination: softer temperatures, less crowded beaches (including lots of deserted ones) and a million options for outdoor activities. Plus, right after Christmas starts the Taste of Tasmania Festival, which takes place in Hobart and displays the island’s best food and wine. A festival for the senses, in every sense.
