It's Monday and we've got 3 things to do this week. One is to recognise the efforts of an individual; another is to help raise funds for the work of the Cancer Council; and the other is a magic show from Pip (of Australia's Got Talent) in Sydney next Sunday.
1. Nominate a premmie hero
Every year in Australia, thousands of babies are born prematurely. The families ride a rollercoaster of emotions as they watch their children fight to overcome the health and development issues facing them as a result of their early arrival. Many of these issues continue long after the babies are discharged from hospital.
L’il Aussie Prems Foundation is an online community providing support to families who have given birth prematurely. Since 2009, they’ve had their annual Premmie Hero Volunteer Awards to recognise and celebrate the dedication of individual volunteers within the premature birth community.
If you know someone who is a ‘premmier hero’ – one of the ordinary-but-extraordinary people who volunteer their time to support premier families – why not nominate them?
Nominations close on 31st August and can be made via the Lil Aussie Prems website
2. Do something on Daffodil Day
They’re bright, beautiful and a symbol of hope and life, as well as a symbol to help raise funds for the disease that strikes one-in-three Australians and is on a trajectory to increase.
This Friday, 23rd August, is national Daffodil Day - the day to do something to support the hope for better treatment and better services for people with cancer and their families, and – one day – a cancer-free future.
There are many ways you can help.
- Buy a daffodil or other merchandise (pictured)
- Be a volunteer and sell daffodils
- Host a Daffodil Day garden party at work
- Have a ‘dress yellow’ day
- Decorate the office in yellow
- Or whatever you like!
