‘Hang on!’ you say. You want me to not work and this will help my business?
That’s right, taking time out of your business will help it develop, grow, expand and improve. Let me explain why.
So often in business we are just head down and tail up trying to get everything done. We do our marketing and supervise our staff and make sure the product or service gets delivered on time, and then there is the administration.
By the time the day is done, we are exhausted physically and mentally and just head home (or a few steps away to the kitchen if you work at home) to get dinner, eat and fall into bed. Sound familiar?
Take time out!
By this it may well just be 45 minutes a day.
This time should be great thinking time and in some instances can be combined with a sport – something simple and quiet like swimming or cycling or jogging or walking the dog is perfect to both exercise and to allow our minds to clear and think.
We need clear time to think about our businesses, think about any challenges, plan strategies and goal direction. It’s so hard to do this when we are on the go constantly.
Another option is to take off a day.
.... a complete day where you take yourself out of the business and away. It might just be at home, although reality is that you will probably just hit a load of washing. Consider a day away, perhaps a night at the beach, where you can walk along the beach and just have some thinking time. Consider taking a day off and away once a quarter to specifically plan and think about your business.
By taking some time out of your business, and especially combining it with relaxation or exercise, you are going to feel recharged, refreshed, motivated and brimming with great ideas to implement.
Try it – and see.
