Urban, who is in Australia as a coach on the Nine Network's talent quest hit The Voice, says he tries not spend more than two weeks apart from his actor/wife Nicole Kidman, who has been filming The Railway Man in Scotland.
The 44-year-old singer said Kidman comes first in his life and his two daughters Sunday, three, and Faith, one, are a very close second.
In keeping with his goal of not being more than a fortnight apart, he recently visited Kidman while she was filming in Scotland.
"The kids have to know their parents are strong," Urban told TV Week.
"You need to take the time out for each other, otherwise the whole thing can fall apart."
Urban has become a big softie as a father and says he often shows people photos of his children, usually on his mobile phone.
"I always said I would never do this, but I am such a proud dad," Urban said.
Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden has also included his high-profile wife Nicole Richie and their two children Harlow and Sparrow on set visits for The Voice.
Richie, four-year-old Harlow and two-year-old Sparrow arrived in Sydney a few weeks ago to be by Madden's side while he films The Voice.
