Homework can be a hard experience for children to pick up and manage throughout their time in school. Parents can thankfully help their children easily with their homework through a range of methods and strategies that will give them an easier time managing their skills and thought processes.

In this guide from a private school in North London, we explore the ways you can help your child with their homework each way in fun and manageable ways.

Break down their homework into chunks

The easiest way is to take a step back and look at the situation from a different perspective. Break down each bit of their sections of homework into more manageable chunks so that they don’t feel overwhelmed and worried about what they have to face each evening. By doing this, your child can learn to focus on the most important parts of their homework at that time, instead of spending what could be hours on one specific assignment.

Use online resources together

Part of helping your child use the internet safely while also benefiting their homework is through using the many online resources available for your child. Browse the internet together and play games if you like to get them used to the methods and processes they may need to be using to complete their homework. Explore a range of revision aids to help them with their work, and help them develop their skills in a fun and engaging way.

Reward your child

Have your child feel rewarded for all of their hard work after they’ve finished their studies. Having something to look forward to after all of their studies are done will give them a lot more motivation and confidence in completing their work in a good time. It’s also a good way of showing your child that through hard work does come its series of rewards and benefits. No pain, no gain as they always say!

Set your child achievable goals

Have a series of goals in a visible way to allow your child to work on their problem solving skills in actionable ways. It will show your child how they can prioritise their homework throughout the school week, as well as anything that they need to work on over the weekend, without feeling like they’ve missed any tasks from the week. Having somewhere to tick off their tasks for the week will keep them engaged in their work and it also gives them a lot more motivation to work on their homework in stages.
