I was lucky enough to be asked try the Kiinde Starter kit over a week. I was excited to trial it as I was drawn by the interchangeable bags, which means no cleaning and sterilizing of bottles – saving time and much needed energy.
So in a nutshell, when you purchase a Kiinde Each Starter Kit for $79.95, you get:
- 20 Pre-sterilised Twist breast milk storage pouches with twist-locking caps
- 10 Direct-pump adapters
- 2 Squeeze natural feeding bottles
- 1 Slow-flow Active Latch nipple with case
- 1 Medium-flow Active Latch nipple with case
- 1 Fast-flow Active Latch nipple with case
- 1 Keeper breast milk holder and organiser
- 2 Nipple brushes
I found the teat flow good and our bubs had no problems latching to it. She had minimal wind after being fed with it. However, I did have difficulty knowing exactly how much I’d actually fed. Not a biggie for me, but could possibly be a problem for other mums wanting to know precisely how much they’d fed.
The kit was easy to assemble and straight forward to follow – even with hardly any sleep and little patience!
I like the ability to store milk for later in a smart storage shelf with multiple compartments, and found seeing the reassuring bags of back feeds fabulous.
The design is smart and there are lots of benefits for a busy mum on the run including: it’s adaptability with other common bottle brands, handy for when travelling and is easy to clean. It is very practical and does simplify feeding.
However, there’s one negative to note when making your purchase decision - you do need to keep buying pouches and you can’t reuse them, which is another ongoing expense to add to the family budget. A 20 pack of pouches is $7.99, while a 40 pack is $14.99.
But overall, I would recommend the Kiinde Starter kit to a busy mum looking for a simple and practical solution for her baby if she’s happy to pay ongoing costs associated with the disposable pouches.
I give it 4 stars.
