Does your local school or community organisation need more green space?

If so, check out The Perfect Patch of Green initiative from Turf Australia and Junior Landcare. They’ve joined forces to look for schools and community groups in need of a green makeover to help improve outdoor playing spaces for children with professionally-laid natural turf.

All schools and community groups that support or work with young people are invited to apply by describing how natural turf would enhance their environment and how their space would benefit from a real grass makeover.

The recipients last year included a Scouts group that made over a space for camping and orienteering; a high school that was badly damaged by a cyclone; and a number of primary schools that wanted to improve their outdoor area for play and sporting activities.

The President of Turf Australia, John Keleher, said he is looking forward to seeing even more outdoor recreation spaces improved with natural turf for kids to enjoy.

“Last year we were thrilled to see the fantastic impact that a natural turf makeover can have on schools and community groups. We are really excited to continue working with Junior Landcare to give kids the chance to enjoy their outdoor spaces and appreciate their beautiful natural surroundings.”

Tessa Jakszewicz, CEO of Landcare Australia, says the added benefit of The Perfect Patch of Green is that it gives kids opportunities for outdoor learning.

“Landcare Australia is delighted to continue our partnership with Turf Australia and give children outdoor spaces which they can enjoy and use for outdoor learning activities. This is a great way for kids to have educational experiences outside of the classroom, where they can learn about our environment in a fun and enjoyable way,” she said.

All schools, including preschools and kindergartens, as well as youth groups including Scouts, Girl Guides and other community organisations that involve and support young people are all eligible to enter The Perfect Patch of Green program. Expressions of Interest close on 1st July 2013, with the successful recipients to be announced in November 2013.
