Families who make the Plant Seed Promise are encouraged to swap butter for MeadowLea on their daily toast and sandwiches to save each family member over 2.5kg of saturated fat a year, and in doing so they will be helping MeadowLea build Plant Seed gardens in children’s hospitals across Australia.
Sophie Falkiner officially opened the first Plant Seed garden at St George Hospital in New South Wales yesterday and announced that if MeadowLea reaches 2,000 Plant Seed Promises, they will build a Plant Seed garden at four more children‟s hospitals, including; the Austin Hospital (VIC), Wesley Hospital (QLD), the Women and Children's Hospital (SA) and the Princess Margaret Hospital (WA).
Mum of two, Sophie Falkiner, who made the first Plant Seed Promise, said: “The Plant Seed garden at St George Hospital is absolutely gorgeous.”
“It has put a smile on all the children’s faces here and I am sure the other gardens will bring just as much joy to the other hospitals. My kids love their toast in the morning!”
“I made the Plant Seed Promise for my family to help them maintain a healthier diet and because it’s an easy switch.”
Dietitian, kids health writer, and mother-of-two, Karen Kingham, who is also supporting the campaign, said: “If your family can avoid excessive amounts of saturated fat it will benefit their health. I made the swap to margarine a long time ago for my family’s health.”
“Saturated fats are unhealthy fats that come mostly from animal products. They generally raise LDL-cholesterol levels, known as ‘bad’ cholesterol, and can affect your health.
‘Recent research indicates that cholesterol is not just a problem for the grown-ups. According to a study published in the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, healthy weight children as young as six can have worryingly high levels of cholesterol.”
