Help bring a smile to the face of the thousands of critically ill children who spend the festive season in hospital. At this time, children who have to stay in hospital run an increased risk of depression at a time when they're already dealing with a serious illness.
Enter Humphrey B Bear - the 'Ambassabear' for the Women's and Children's Hospital Foundation of South Australia.
The Australian entertainment icon has come out of a long hibernation with a limited edition Christmas set of a cute and cuddly Humphrey as well as a double DVD set with 10 episodes.
The CEO of the Women's and Children's Foundation, Sam Tolley, said the funds raised will help provide play therapy, recreation and distraction activities for children in hospital.
"While the rest of us plan our holiday activities, we are encouraging the community to think about the kids who will be spending those holidays in hospital.”
“The proceeds will allow us to buy iPads and Apps so kids can stay in touch with family and friends. iPads are also great for kids who have neurological conditions as they can’t hold a pencil or pen, it is much easier to tap on a tablet! We will also buy everyday resources such as coloured pencils, art and craft materials, books and games."
Larger projects may include pain distraction graphics in hospital areas as well as an aquarium in the pediatric emergency department that sees more than 40,000 children each year.
