As Myanmar (or Burma) opens up to the world - thanks in no small part to the Nobel Laureate Ang Sang Suu-Kyi - the country's first all-girl pop group is starting to make waves across Asia.
Me N Ma Girls is made up of four talented girls - A Moon, Htike Htike (pronounced Tie Tie), Kimmy and Cha Cha who have been together for over three years.
Rehearsing in a run-down old house in downtown Yangon (or Rangoon), and keen to have a voice and make a difference to the world, they've performed for dignitaries, members of parliament, and major venues throughout Southeast Asia and the United States.
While Me N Ma Girls are working to expand themselves into a global force, they claim their hearts will be forever anchored to Myanmar.
Me N Ma Girls are now signed to a worldwide management deal with Los Angeles based Power Music Inc. and have been working with a variety of major producers in the US. The girls have spent the summer in Los Angeles working on new songs and a music video for their new English language single, Girl Strong which is featured below.
Last month, Me N Ma Girls swept through Bangkok and Hong Kong, appearing on radio and TV.
The Me N Ma Girls were also recently featured on SBS Australia’s Dateline program and a documentary about the group, Nikki And The Tiger Girls recently opened at the Margaret Mead Film Festival in New York to sold out audiences.
