It is hardly news that nowadays parents need to be careful with the food choices for their young children. As it happens, we live in a world where industrial food is the rule rather than the exception, and while some major food companies are indeed careful when it comes to children’s food, others aren’t. As a rule of thumb, the more unknown (or unintelligible) ingredients a package shows, the less healthy the food is.
On the other hand, it would be naive to pretend that we can feed ourselves and our children only with perfectly traced, fresh-from-the-farm, organic foods; more often than not, we’ll find that unpredictable variables and ‘grey areas’ are rather common in the food production and distribution businesses.
To be fair, this doesn’t equal to not caring about our food choices: it just means that the burden of responsibility shouldn’t fall only over our shoulders. In other words, we can certainly do our best in providing the healthiest meals to our children, and that includes choosing the right food companies, that is products from companies who’ve decided to share this important responsibility with us parents. And this is exactly why we’ve composed this list of healthy snacks that feel like treats: it includes a bit of everything, just like any good diet should:
- Sugar-free banana cake: as you may already know, sugar and salt aren’t good for toddlers. This sugar-free cake complies with this simple rule, and luckily, children tend to love the taste of banana. In addition, the recipe is super easy.
- Fruit and cheese sticks: if there’s something every parent know, it’s that children often like some, but not all, fruits. The magic of mixing fruit and cheese on a stick is that you can combine the fruits to meet your kid’s taste. A win-win recipe that only takes minutes.
- Low-sugar, no colourant healthy yoghurt: CalciYum, a deliciously smooth and creamy yoghurt made with whole milk features no artificial colorants or flavours which is perfect for kids.. Not only is it a lunchbox favourite, but it’s also a fun and convenient snack. For more healthy recipes featuring CalciYum check out Instagram that might, one day, save your day.
- Dips ‘n chips: since kids often like creamy, soft textures, dips and wholesome chips are a fantastic solution. Find out which dip your toddler likes and you’ll also find a meal that will equally satisfy children and adults.
That’s it! We’re not friends of making endless lists – usually that overcomplicates the choosing process – so we hope you’ll find this one useful. And always remember: healthy food can be easy too!
