The Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series and Mitsubishi Pajero have both scored 5-star ANCAP safety ratings, but the Foto Tunland was the first vehicle not to receive 5-stars for vehicles tested in 2013.
The NSW Centre for Road Safety and NRMA Motoring & Services said the Foton Tunland only achieved a 3-star ANCAP safety rating due to its poor crash test performance and lack of electronic stability control (ESC).
“ANCAP established ESC as a mandatory requirement for 5-star ratings from 2008 and for 4-stars from 2012.
"ESC is a life-saver – particularly in vehicles with a higher centre of gravity. There really is no excuse for a new vehicle coming into the market today to be without ESC, which is now mandatory for passenger cars.”
NRMA vehicle safety expert Jack Haley said the Toyota Landcruiser 200 Series and Mitsubishi Pajero now held the maximum 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

ANCAP is supported by all Australian and New Zealand motoring clubs, the Australian Government, the New Zealand Government, Australian state and territory governments, the Victorian Transport Accident Commission, NRMA Insurance and the FIA Foundation.
