Zumba Fitness® - the largest dance-fitness company in the world and creator of the acclaimed Zumba dance-fitness party workout - has launched The Great Calorie Drive.
The aim? To inspire Australians to join the rest of the world to help fight one of the world's greatest health risks - hunger.
How? Throughout the month of June, participants are encouraged to shake off their calories in Zumba classes across Australia, and Zumba will donate the equivalent of the average amount of calories burned per class (750 calories, or one meal, for up to three classes) to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and Feeding America.
Zumba Fitness is challenging the world to donate millions of calories toward hunger-relief efforts. The steps are simple:
- Download the Zumba Fitness Mobile App on smartphones (iOS and Android-friendly; free of charge from the App Store or Google Play)
- Check in to the nearest Zumba class (once downloaded, the app will direct Australians to their nearest Zumba class)
- Shake and dance in Zumba class and burn an average of 750 calories
- Calories automatically will be donated to the World Food Programme by Zumba Fitness.
“Hunger is one of the world’s greatest solvable problems,” said Alberto Perlman, co-founder and CEO of Zumba Fitness. “While many fight to burn calories, others suffer from hunger. The Zumba network is in a unique position to tip the scales in the right direction, and we expect to touch millions of lives.”
‘The Great Calorie Drive has made it simple for anyone to find and take a Zumba class, burn off calories while having a blast, and donate the calories they burn to make a difference in other people’s lives,” added Perlman.
“It's a unique initiative that harnesses the power of a global community to help those in need,” said Kenro Oshidari, WFP Regional Director for Asia. “We hope that Zumba fans in Australia and New Zealand will take advantage of this terrific opportunity to engage in the fight against hunger.”
