The hot tip for fashion this Spring is ‘Chanel style’ with anything, according to one of Australia’s longest-standing importers and retailer of haute couture fabrics from Europe’s best textile houses, Liz Roadley of Stitches to Style in Melbourne’s Armadale.
Having recently returned from a biannual trip to visit textile houses in Italy, Switzerland and France, Liz says that Chanel style jackets are being combined with anything.
“It doesn’t matter if it’s corporate wear, evening wear or jeans, a Chanel style jacket made from boucle is the ‘must have’ in Europe. They look great whatever you team them with.”
She also says the colours are fantastic.
“They are brilliant. Golden yellow, emerald green, pinks and oranges as well as mint green, ice cool pastels, tangerine and the perennial classic - navy.”
Also popular in Europe are feminine florals, bold prints and delicate lace used in a variety of outfits.
Stitches to Style has the finest European fabrics available in time for Spring and Summer, and Liz says women shouldn’t be afraid to ‘do their own thing’.
“Choosing your own fabric has many benefits. It doesn’t have to be just about a special occasion – although that’s why many of our clients shop with us.
“You can choose the colour that suits you; whether it’s plain, print or floral; you can mix and match; and you can get it made into whatever you want. A custom made outfit ensures you’re comfortable in something made exactly for you.”
For Melbourne readers, Stitches to Style provides expert style advice, and also has an in-house dressmaker who can help with design and making.
These tips are from the Stitches to Style team for those wanting to create their own outfit from beautiful fabric:
1. Have an idea of what you’d like. Sometimes a photo can help, or give you an idea.
2. Think about what suits you – the colours, the style. Most of the time, simplicity is the key.
3. Also be prepared to be inspired by the beauty and quality of the range available. You might see something you see, which would be perfect for you.
4. Take time to choose. We won’t hurry you at Stitches to Style, and neither should anyone else when you’re choosing a fabric or a design.
5. Try to plan ahead. The more time available, the more time you and the dressmaker have together to make sure the garment works for you.
