The Oscar winning-actress welcomed her first child Aleph in 2012 with Benjamin Millepied.
While she admits being a mother is far from glamorous she has been making an effort to dress more femininely.
"Especially after months of diapers and regurgitation, women need to feel beautiful, to change their look and make-up," she told Italy's edition of Vanity Fair.
"Since Aleph was born I don't go shopping or go out. My only luxury are books, movies (I buy them on iTunes) and music (I listen to my favourite song with Benjamin and my son)."
The star loved the changes her body went through while she was pregnant, and embraced the whole experience.
However, Portman believes men can feel uncomfortable when their partners are expecting.
"One of my best friends told me something interesting: men change when you are pregnant," she said.
"They get confused about our image. Women feel good in their body when they start to put on weight. We don't feel awkward. On the contrary - we feel really excited by the situation. Men become funny. Even the best lover on earth can become clumsy."
Portman is the face of Christian Dior's perfume Miss Dior Cherie. The brunette beauty feels honoured to represent the iconic brand.
"I don't know why Dior has chosen me for the new ad campaign, but I am really happy about it," she laughed.
