For those of us old enough to remember, she was Gidget, The Flying Nun, The Girl With Something Extra and Nora Walker on TV. She debuted on film as far back as 1962 and won her first Academy Award 15 years later for Norma Rae, followed up by another one for Places in the Heart a few years later. On the silver screen, she's also been Robin Williams' ex, Tom Hanks' mother, Reece Witherspoon's employer and, most recently, Daniel Day Lewis' wife in Lincoln.
And in January, actress Sally Field will be feted for her career success at the 2013 Palm Springs International Film Festival in California.
Sally Field is 66 and a bankable Hollywood star. She is hotly tipped to land an Oscar nomination in a few weeks time for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Mary Todd Lincoln in the Steven Spielberg epic, and will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the annual Palm Springs gala, while the cast of Ben Affleck's Argo will receive the honour for Ensemble Performance.
Affleck and his co-stars, Bryan Cranston and Alan Arkin, will be among the castmembers on hand to accept the prize during the award ceremony on 5th January.
Naomi Watts was recently announced as the recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Actress award.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival is due takes place from 3rd-14th January.
