Keeping a tight hold of the purse strings is something that the majority of parents are all too familiar with. So, imagine the joy when this Aussie mum woke up to see that her $5 punt on the US lottery had changed her family’s life for good.
The lucky mum of nine from Victoria got a lovely surprise on a Sunday morning as she woke to see she’d bagged a huge jackpot of more than $808,000.
The 32 year old mum placed a $5 Quickie bet on the MegaMillions draw through Lottoland but due to a busy weekend taking the kids to basketball practice, she didn’t get chance to check her account until later in the weekend.
She said that normally she wouldn’t open the Lottoland email and would just quickly skip over it, but this time something made her open it. When she realised what she’d won she knew it was a life changing amount for her family. But, rather than simply telling her husband about the win, she opened the email and let him read the account balance for himself.
She said she had placed the Quickie bet because it was quick and easy, as the name suggests, which is understandable with nine children to tend to. Prior to this she had only ever won small amounts so when asked about what she planned to do with her winnings it was great to hear she plans to buy a land and house package to secure her children’s future.
Although $808,208.88 is an amazing win, it’s also bitter sweet for this winner as she was just one number away (the Mega Ball) from winning $92 million – a truly life changing amount.
A tip for future Mega Millions players
42 seems to be the number of choice for the random number draw. In recent months Lottoland players have missed out on two huge jackpots - $100 million and $334 million – because the number 42 wasn’t in their choice of numbers. Our Victorian mum thankfully had chosen the number 42, her Mega Ball miss was the number 24!
Past winners
Our Victorian mum of nine isn’t a one-off Aussie winner either. In the last few months there’s been a $1.3 million jackpot win in Melbourne (one number away from $200 million), and two Queenslanders winning $100,000 and $67,000 respectively.
Although saving money is important, seeing these amazing wins and how the money will change the lives of an otherwise normal family, definitely makes you wonder about what you’d do if you won the money.
It also makes you think it’s worth the punt every now and again if you’ve got $5 spare, why not give yourself the chance to change your life? Go on, let us know what you’d do if you won a life changing amount. And don’t forget to let us know if you give it a go and win!
