Are you visiting friends overseas and want to give them a little bit of Australia which is different from the usual wine and chocolates? Or perhaps you’re a homesick expat? Or maybe you’d like some Australian natives to grow for yourself?

Creative gardening label Sow ‘n Sow of Melbourne has unveiled a collection of Australian natives that combine a gift card with a packet of seeds to form a gift that grows.

The range features four iconic easy-to-grow Australian natives: our floral emblem, the Golden Wattle, Kangaroo Paw, Native Wisteria (main picture), and Everlasting Daisies.

Sow ‘n Sow Founder and Creative Director Michelle Brady says the collection was developed with both tourists and locals in mind.

“To overseas visitors, the Australian landscape is so striking and one of our biggest attractions,” Michelle said.

“Our flora in particular is so very distinctive and unlike anything many people have seen before. The Natives collection is a memorable, sustainable and affordable souvenir that can be nourished and cherished for a long time after the holiday is over.

“It’s a unique way for people to take home the colours, texture and smell of the Australian landscape, either as a long-lasting memory for themselves or as a special gift that shares their experience with family and friends.”

Michelle says the collection was also inspired by a growing demand from locals keen to learn and experience more about native plants.

“Our flora has a long history of inspiring art and design in Australia, so it makes sense that people would also want to surround themselves and their loved ones with it in real, living and breathing form.”

Michelle says she likes the challenge of opening the door for people to feel confident growing natives from seed, which is sometimes considered difficult.

“We chose plants that are some of the easiest to grow. Given the hearty Australian landscape, there is an extra step or two involved for two of the seed types, and a little more patience is required compared to your typical vegetable seeds, but this can make it a more enjoyable and ultimately rewarding experience.”

The Australian Natives collection features striking new hand illustrated packaging from Sow ‘n Sow collaborator Daniella Germain. The products are made in Australia from eco friendly materials including recycled paper and soy based inks.
