The cooler months are fast approaching, which means Yates Planting Month is just around the corner.
The Yates initiative aims to encourage people to get out into the garden throughout the month of April and prepare their soil for planting.
Autumn is the perfect time of year to plant as air temperatures are milder, but the soil is still warm enough to encourage root growth. This is key, as according to Yates, when it comes to a healthy garden, the secret is in the soil.
Kathy Lindsay, from the James Street Reserve Community Garden in Redfern, NSW, has seen first-hand the positive impact Yates Dynamic Lifter can have on a garden.
"This garden is so important to the community. It provides relief and a real piece of beauty for the local residents in a built-up area. Being a city garden, the soil isn’t naturally good quality, so definitely needs a bit of a helping hand. We added Yates Dynamic Lifter to our soil a year ago, and since then, we’ve seen a huge improvement in the quality of the soil and the overall health of the garden, which means everyone can enjoy more produce, throughout the year," says Kathy.
Yates Dynamic Lifter is a soil improver and plant fertiliser. It works to improve the quality of soil, providing the best foundation for a healthy garden. Yates Dynamic Lifter’s unique blend of organic ingredients enriches and improves soil by increasing water and nutrient retention, while encouraging earthworms and microorganisms. It also provides complete plant nutrition with organic slow release nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium for better root growth, stronger plants and more flowers and fruit.
Angie Thomas, gardening expert and Horticultural Communications Manager at Yates, is calling on everyone to get out in the garden for Yates Planting Month, and to try Yates Dynamic Lifter for themselves.
“No matter what you’re growing, nutrient rich soil is key, and that’s where Yates Dynamic Lifter comes in,” said Thomas. “April is Yates Planting Month, and it’s a great time for you to get out in your garden, prepare your soil and get planting.”
To make gardening more enjoyable, get the whole family into the fun! Angie Thomas shares three tips to ensure that kids enjoy their time in the garden as well:
1. Give your kids their own plot – It’s a great idea to designate a section of your garden for your kids to have as their own. Giving them some extra responsibility and ownership over the gardening process will help keep them interested.
2. Help your kids add Yates Dynamic Lifter to their soil, as its unique blend of organic ingredients will help make it nutrient-rich, and ideal for planting.
3. Plant fast growing and kid friendly fruit and vegies – Kids get most excited about growing things they can eat. Many children have little idea that peas grow in pods on a plant or that the beetroot on the hamburger bun didn’t start its life in a tin. Imagine their excitement when they can sow seeds into the soil and follow the plant right through until it’s ready for picking. Vegies like baby beetroot and lettuce are quick to grow and sugarsnap and snow peas can be eaten straight out of the vegie patch. And don’t forget baby carrots, which can be harvested in as little as 10 weeks.
