What does the world’s biggest orchestra sound like?:

Jazz musician and Director of the Queensland Music Festival, James Morrison, wants to break a record – and he’s inviting people to be part of it.

Musicians (amateur or professional) across the nation are invited to converge on Brisbane on Saturday 13^th July to be part of the World’s Biggest Orchestra as well as the Largest Trumpet Ensemble at Suncorp Stadium.

James Morrison says the Guinness World Record attempts will kick-off the Queensland Music Festival with a bang.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make musical history,” Mr Morrison said.

“We need 6,500 musicians to break the current record for the World’s Biggest Orchestra and more than 1,200 trumpeters to break the record for the Largest Trumpet Ensemble.”

“Whether you’re part of a school or community orchestra, concert or brass band, a professionalmusician or play just for fun, we need you to be part of this historic moment.”

Queensland Arts Minister Ian Walker said the World's Biggest Orchestra was a way for people toparticipate in the arts.

"Thousands of people coming together for the chance of a lifetime promises to be a thrilling eventand is just one more example of the enormous power the Queensland Music Festival will generate across Queensland in July," Mr Walker said.

James Morrison is arranging a set of three iconic pieces specifically for the event.

“Of course, this is an Australian orchestra so we’re going to start with Waltzing Matilda, and beinga symphonic event, we need to pay tribute to one of the grand masters, so Banjo Patterson will be followed by Beethoven with Ode to Joy.

“And for the grand finale we are going to rock out with Queen’s iconic We Will Rock You.”

Mr Morrison says there are easy parts and more challenging parts written for each instrument, so no matter whatyour level – and even if you haven’t played for years – Morrison is inviting you to put Brisbane’s name into the record books.

“Even if you don’t play you can still participate in this special event – after all, every orchestraneeds an audience.”

The Queensland Music Festival will showcase the best of local, national and international talent in every conceivable styleof music in over 30 regions from Warwick to Winton, Mackay to Mt Isa, Birdsville to Brisbane and beyond.
