One of the greatest exponents of the ‘beautiful game’ of football, Alessandro Del Piero, who recently played in the A-League for Sydney FC returns to Australia this month in his role as Global Ambassador for the Asian Football Cup that kicks-off in Melbourne on Friday.
While Del Piero is back to watch some of the games on offer with the Asian Cup tournament, he will also be taking time out to conduct coaching clinics for kids aged 6-16 years, as part of the ADP10 Football Academy. But unlike many other coaching clinics with a celebrity name at the helm, Del Piero will attend the two clinics to be held in the Sydney suburbs of Cremorne and Parramatta.
Del Piero’s credentials are unparalleled in Australian football. For a start he is considered one of the top 100 players of all time – in a game played by around 300 million people worldwide. He has won a World Cup with Italy, the European Champions League, the Continental Cup and eight Italian league championships with his club, Juventus, and numerous other national team, club and personal awards.
In a playing career spanning almost 25 years, he has played around 700 first-class matches and scored more than 250 goals. He is widely considered to be one of the top Italian footballers of his generation, winning Footballer of the Year in 1998 and 2008.
Most recently, he has helped pioneer the concept of the Indian Super League with the Delhi Dynamos to help develop India's football capacity and interest.
Prior to joining Delhi, he played for two seasons with Sydney FC in what was the A-League’s first acquisition of a truly world-class player. His presence in the A-League helped catapult the competition into a new dimension in terms of fan, corporate and media interest.
The ADP10 Football Academy looks at sport from all angles including how to train, the importance of getting fit as well as nutrition, hydration, equipment, team work, fair play and more. The cost for the three-day clinic is $245 with each participant to receive a kit comprising jersey, shorts, socks and ball, a certificate of participation and an opportunity to learn from Del Piero himself.
There will be two ADP10 Football Academy coaching clinics in Sydney:
- the first in Cremorne from 19-21 January at 9am – 3pm,
- the second in Parramatta from 22-24 January at 9am – 3pm.
