As the Socceroos continue their quest to win the biggest football competition in Asia, the Asian Football Cup, 22-year-old defender Jason Davidson has joined with World Vision as an ambassador for One Goal - a campaign that uses football as the catalyst to improve the nutrition of children in Asia and Australia.
Davidson, who plays for West Bromwich Albion in the English Premier League, said he was privileged to be asked to use the game in a positive way to help children get a better start in life.
“Becoming a One Goal Ambassador is a real opportunity to help those who are less fortunate. It’s fantastic that I can promote an initiative that is both personal and important to me.
“Football has given me many opportunities, including the chance to travel extensively while living and playing in countries like Vietnam, Malaysia, Japan, China and Thailand, to name a few.
“I understand from first-hand experience the importance of helping children and their families in these communities eat, play and live right.”
One Goal spokesperson Ben Wallis said that a sport like football can be a major change for for good.
“We believe that football can change the world, and One Goal is a fantastic opportunity to unite the whole football family – fans, clubs and countries alike – to create a lasting legacy starting with the 2015 Asian Cup,” said Mr Wallis.
“We encourage all fans to get behind One Goal by registering through our website to receive the latest news and information, signing up your football team to take part and donating to support the One Goal cause.”
More than 200 million children in the region are born each year carrying the burden of malnutrition – entering the world at a disadvantage to their international counterparts.
One Goal funds assists World Vision’s health and nutrition projects in Australia and in countries across the region, including sports for development.
