On the back of new releases including the popular Lego Star Wars and Friends ranges, and Hasbro’s KRE-O, searches and page views of building toys on the Lasoo website increased by 72 per cent from this time last year.
Mid-year toy sales are an important time for parents. Traditionally it’s the second busiest retail period after Christmas. The increased interest in toys is reflected in the number of page views of toy catalogues on the Lasoo site, which received 57 per cent more page views than any other category in June.
Toys received 876,178 page views, five times more than electronics, which only received 176,547 for June.
According to Dom Finnegan from Lasoo, the most popular toys also included pretend play – costumes, dolls houses and kitchen sets – as well as trampolines and outdoor games.
“Despite many three year olds being able to fully operate an iPhone, parents today want their children to experience the joy of the toys that they played with as kids.”
“New release movies consistently have an impact on toy sales, and this year is no different with the release of another favourite of generations’ past – Spiderman – coinciding with toy sales. This has led to an entire range of new Spiderman themed toys including action figures and dress up costumes.”
