Colour your children’s world these school holidays at Darling Quarter with our Little Creators Project. There are three inspiring workshops where your kids can make music, create original art, and take part in an interactive story time. And it’s all free!
The workshops are accessible to children of all ages, with no prior experience necessary – just a willingness to try their hand at something new!
Brother and sister duo, David and Noni Cragg, are young Indigenous contemporary artists who will lead the illustration/mixed media workshops. Under their guidance, children will be encouraged to use a fine art approach to experiment with materials including acrylics, watercolours and paint pens on art card, as they create their own depictions of native flora and fauna.
As David explains, “Our aim to help the kids become more confident in their own mark making and working with colours so they can produce something to take home that they’re proud of.”
If music is your child’s jam, join the team from Heaps Decent for a fun introduction to music production: write songs, sing, rap, make beats and explore electronic instruments. They can make a whole new track in this awesome hands-on workshop!
Finally, meet Mimi and Laura from The Beanies as they engage children in an entertaining and sometimes silly story time. Become part of the story and help create the performance! It’s an amusing activity for all ages.
The sessions run for 60 minutes each and are led by facilitators who are experienced in engaging children (even those who may be shy) and helping everyone feel relaxed so they can have fun. Please note that a parent or guardian must be present during the workshops.
Presented by Darling Quarter in conjunction with curator and producer aMBUSH Gallery, these workshops provide children with the opportunity to develop or take part in original work that encourages rich and varied self-expression. It’s a unique insight into the world of art, storytelling and music composition and production.
