Playschool’s Justine has a new book:

After years of reading children's stories on Playschool, Justine Clarke has a book of her own.

The Playschool presenter, singer and children's entertainer launched her first book, The Gobbledygook is Eating a Book yesterday.

Co-written with Arthur Baysting and illustrated by Tom Jellett, the book is about a friendly monster who learns to read rather than eat the books he finds. He also discovers the fun to be had with stories.

The tale has also been put to music, enabling Clarke to sing it to children as well as read it. 

Clarke says it is wonderful to have her own book after years of reading other peoples. She has test-run The Gobbledygook with her own children and says thankfully they like it - its rhyming form is great for pre-schoolers.

"It means they can memorise it and I think they get a lot more satisfaction, and I think a little bit of empowerment in memorising it and knowing what comes next and being able to read it," Clarke told AAP.

"I've read it a lot and I obviously read a lot of books on Playschool and I haven't tired yet of reading it out loud, so it's going well."

Clarke brought in old friend and fellow actor William McInnes to launch the book at the State Library of Victoria.

McInnes, who is also patron of the National Year of Reading, said it was a great book that showed parents and children the opportunities to be gained from sharing a story together.

The two worked together on Look Both Ways, the 2005 film written and directed by McInnes' late wife Sarah Watt, who passed away in 2011. larke and McInnes are also currently working together on The Time of Our Lives, an ABC drama series due to screen next year.

Clarke is about to hit the road with The Gobbledygook in her Pop Up tour. They wil tour together throughout November and December, visiting Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne.
