Got a little one in your family who enjoys books, arts, music or dancing? If so, two free events at this year's Woodend Winter Arts Festival should please the littlest culture vultures.

This year is the 9th Winter Arts Festival at Woodend (one hour north of Melbourne), held over the Queen's Birthday Long Weekend from 7-10 June.

As well as the free events for children, there are special children's prices of $15 for all concerts so parents who want to foster music interest and development in their kids can let them hear and see the very best national and international musicians in class and jazz forms.

The Woodend Library story time will this year feature and interactive ‘Magic Pencil’ session led by illustrator Ann James, who will read Bird and Bear, and I’m a Dirty Dinosaur as well as drawing and painting each of the characters form the books. All children will be encouraged to create their own characters in the session using 'magic pencils'.

For budding musicians, 'Mini Maestro's' will present three sessions aimed at 1-2 year olds, 2-3 year olds and 3-5 year olds. Music teacher, Jo Irwin, will take children through activities that include percussion, singing, dancing and playing to explore music elements such as dynamics, harmony, rhythm, beat and tempo.

There's also a free Opening Night Fireworks on Friday 7th June starting at 6.30pm, with entertainment for the entire family, as well as an exhibition of illustrated children's books.

Check out Woodend Winter Arts Festival for further information and booking arrangements.
