Popular breakfast radio duo, ‘Jonesy and Amanda’ (Brendan Jones and Amanda Keller), have introduced a new digital radio station called WS4KIDS. It’s a children’s radio station dedicated solely to raising money for the Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Jonesy and Amanda’s employer station, WSFM, have been working closely with the Sydney's Children's Hospital as part of the upcoming Gold Telethon campaign, an annual key fundraising event which will be broadcast on Channel Nine, WIN and NBN on Monday 10th June.
WS4KIDS has been put together by the pair with music and other content suitable for children.
Jonesy & Amanda are the ‘voices' of the station along with WSFM's weekday afternoon host Bill Weaver. WS4KIDS Digital Radio features:
- A playlist of children's music ranging from family favourites The Wiggles to pop classics of Delta Goodrem.
- ‘Lullaby Mode' - every night from 7pm -7am WS4KIDS will wind down, calming little listeners before bedtime.
- ‘Story Time' - Jonesy and Amanda have handpicked their favourite bedtime stories to read on air which will be played each night
- It will also include interviews and stories from families and key members of the Sydney Children's Hospital.
"We're huge supporters of all the great work that Sydney Children's Hospital does. Last year we raised $45,000 for them and now we're giving them their very own radio station," explains Jones.
"This station is just for the kids - both those at home and the brave little ones in hospital. They get to hear all the music they love, Jonesy and I read some of their favourite stories and there are more gentle songs played at bedtime, where we slow things down so the kids can get a good sleep," adds co-host Amanda Keller.
"I may have thrown the odd Iron Maiden track in there to spice things up, but yeah, otherthan that, it's totally lullaby hour," deadpans Jonesy.
All proceeds from WS4KIDS will go towards buying life-saving medical equipment, funding staffing positions, refurbishing wards and parents' accommodation as well as fund research into children's health. The station is also streamed on the Telethon's official website www.goldtelethon.com.au with the aim of raising enough funds to reach the $3.6 million goal for 2013.
