A 2013 mum has so many choices to ensure she’s keeping up with the top baby trends according to a leading US baby magazine, The Bump. In fact, there’s so many predictions of what will be hot, you can be sure that whatever you want to do will be trending – especially if you use social media to let everyone know! Here’s what to look out for.
Royal Baby
We all know who’s going to be ‘baby of the year’. It’s pretty difficult to ignore a Royal baby especially when the parents are the photogenic Gen Y’s, William and Kate. Just as designers created replicas of Kate’s wedding dress from 2011 – not to mention Pippa’s bridesmaid dress – we can expect replica maternity gear and, eventually, replica baby gear as well as Royal baby souvenirs. As for names? If it’s a boy, George is a strong possibility after William’s great grandfather, King George VI; if it’s a girl, we can anticipate at least one of her names will be Diana.
It’s easy being Green
Just as emerald green is ‘the’ colour of 2013, green shaded names are set to be popular. Jade, Fern, Forest, Olive, Emerald, Mint, Blade (of grass), Pea.
What’s definitely out is naming your baby after a city.
To the manor born
Thanks to the popularity of Downton Abbey, if you don’t head down the green baby name path, then early 20th century English names are also making a comeback. So you could consider Robert, Mary, Edith, Sybil, Matthew, Isobel, Violet, Thomas.
Breastfeeding
More and more mum’s will do it because they know it’s good for their baby’s health.
Mummymoons
Being a mum is hard work and it lasts a lifetime. More and more mums-to-be are having a ‘mummymoon’ before the baby arrives. A lovely, relaxing holiday by the sea, at a spa, or an all girls weekend at home. It could be the last chance for some indulgent ‘me’ time before the happy event.
Neon nursery
Gone are the days of baby blue, pastel pink or languid lemon for the nursery. Give your baby a bit of colour with a touch of neon highlights.
No more baby showers after the first one
Really? Who needs a baby shower for the second or subsequent child? Instead, have a post-baby get-together. Invite your friends around to meet the new born over a BBQ or other general socialising, without putting an expectation on your friends for a baby present.
Make sure you’ve got your smartphone
The big day’s arrived. You’re a mum. No more waiting for the proud dad to get through the telephone list to let people know individually. No need to put a ‘birth announcement’ in the newspaper because only about 25% of Australians read an actual newspaper now anyway. The really switched-on mum has the baby, hops on to Facebook or Twitter and lets everyone know that she and baby are well. Or – even better in our view – forget Facebook and try famiva.com. It’s a private social network just for families.
