The latest gadget I’ve tried is the Philips DECT Avent baby monitor. As I now have my second baby, this is not the first baby monitor I’ve had so I have some experience with them.
However, I would have to say it’s much better than the previous one I used for my daughter. But I guess that technology has also improved in those three years also.
What I looked for
The points that I was interested in with the new baby monitor included the following:
- sound range and quality
- sensitivity to movement (or lack of it)
- mains and battery operation
- temperature monitor display
- low battery indicator
- portability for carer so you can have it with you - eg. belt clip or lanyard style, and
- WiFi capacity
What I liked
My husband and I are very happy with this unit. On all the points I was looking for, it more than passed the grade.
It’s also very simple to set-up and use, has a good strong range and didn’t interfere with wireless in the home at all. This is important as we use it extensively for business purposes.
The sound monitoring is high quality and the little extras are very good. For example, I really love the ‘talk to baby’ feature, the night light and being able to talk to baby.
What I didn’t like
I could not think of anything in particular, though sometimes there is a little bit of noise interference.
